If you are unfamiliar, this is a trend that just highlights characteristic, thoughts, behaviors and personality traits that are seen as warning signs, therefore you must proceed with caution.

I decided I wanted to hop on this trend, not only on my social media platforms, but also here on the blog. As what I share on here is something I will always be able to come back to reflect upon. Here are some of the red flags that I have personally noticed when speaking about travels or even hearing other speak about traveling. I am not going to lie, once I hear someone say two or three of these statements, I mentally note that I likely will not travel with them in the future.

  1. “I only stay in all inclusive hotels/resorts”

I feel as this just significantly narrows your possible experience. Some of the most amazing hotels, with the best of views, are not all inclusive. Not to mention, the invisible rope that we tend to corral ourselves in through all inclusive packages. Suddenly we become afraid to leave the resort and there are wonderful experiences, restaurants, and communities that can be found off once we step foot outside the resorts.

  2. “It doesn’t matter what hotel we stay in, we won’t be there anyway.”

Your living accommodations do make a difference of the overall experience. Even if you do not plan to be there for much time, having a comfortable bed and staying in a safe area should be a top priority. Comfort is not something I am compromising often.

  3. “I only will travel to English speaking countries. I don’t like when people don’t speak English around me when I travel.”

There is so many resources at our fingertips now with our phones that allow us such opportunities to. travel and communicate with others who may not speak the same language as us. Many people are willing to assist tourists in finding their way around, so don’t limit yourself nor your experiences with that hesitation.

  4. “I don’t have a passport because I don’t like to travel out of the country.”

When I hear this, it makes me so sad. Without a passport, you can’t travel outside the country, so if you don’t have one, then how can you ever actually know that you don’t like what-else lays out there. I encourage you to get that passport and start collecting some stamps. Start traveling to places that your friends or family is from or where they have previously traveled.

  5. When they are willing to spend $1000 on a new designer outfit or section at the club but not on a trip.

Materialistic things come and go, experiences last forever. Time is the only. thing that we can not ever get back. That is not to say that a person should not allow themselves to splurge, but constantly prioritizing the latest textiles over a new destination and checking off bucket list dreams is something I am not aligned with.

Now lets chat pet peeves

When the airports doesn’t have free wifi: this should be illegal - especially large airports,

When people begin clapping for a safe landing: we clap for people to do the basics of their jobs now?

When a hotel doesn’t provide complimentary water in the rooms: pay $200/ night. Basic necessities should not be spared

When your airbnb/hotel room is nothing like it was advertised: it’s 2021, use your camera update your photos and stop catfishing your customers.

Airline losses your luggage: you have one job. Granted it’s not always on them, things happen, but after flying for many hours, arriving to your destination and not having your stuff can be frustrating. Especially when you just want a shower and to change your clothes. Time for us to stock up on the airtags!

When visa costs are exorbitant amounts: as a country trying to promote tourism to help fuel the economy, making visas hardly affordable is counter intuitive. For those who can afford it then it is no problem but for those who travel on a budget, it becomes a huge dilemma, ultimately causing that country to miss out on those travelers.
