Azores Islands
The nine islands:
SÃo Jorge
SÃo Miguel
Terceira
Santa Maria
Faial
Pico
Graciosa
Corvo
Flores
Port of Calheta,
São Jorge island
There are a total of 9 Islands that make up the Azores. These islands do belong to Portugal and are located approximately 1,525 kilometers away from one another.
Getting to these islands is no easy feat. Flying from California, it generally takes an entire day of flying to actually touchdown on the islands. When flying from the west coast, we must always catch a layover in Boston. For frame of reference, these islands are located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, approximately, 2,391 miles separate the United States and the Azores.
Once the plane lands in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, we must take a smaller chartered plane to the other islands or catch a ferry ride.
Personally, I have been to five (5) of the nine (9) thus far. In order to best separate them, I have linked individually dedicated pages in the list above.

What you should know:
As you look between the several pages of the different islands, you will realize that there is a lot of similarity in; architecture, farm lands, native flowers, spread of populations between villages and even climate.
However each island is known best for their unique particular cuisines, iconic landscapes, culture activities, and traditions.
Locals of the islands often spend their free time out of the house and with members of their community. Some popular pastimes include; going to the cafes for espresso, playing dominos, playing sueca (Portuguese card game for 4 players), all things relating to the water, scuba diving, snorkeling, cliff jumping, swimming, fishing, laying out at the beach or playing futból.
